#10 Lady Titans overcome shaky start to finish with flourish.

The Lady Titan water polo team was struck by the winds last week loosing there pool for five days, but still had to play Schurr High at ELACC today. It took the Titan squad the first half to start playing with any rhythm, going into the half down by 2. In the 2nd half the lady titans shook off the rust and began to assert themselves. Lead by Kristin Charlton ( 6 goals 5 steals), the lady titans closed the gap with critical stops on defense and power plays. After a Schurr run put SM down by 2, Umi Nakamura took the game over and scored 3 goals in 45sec. to put San Marino up by one. With a minute left Schurr would score the equalizer to tie the game at 10 all. San Marino would not be able to capitalize on there last power play to win in regulation and the game would go into overtime.
In the overtime session, San Marino's momentum would prove to be too much for Schurr. The lady titans out scored Schurr 4-1 in OT to win 14-11. Nakamura had 5 goals and 4 steals. Diana Chang had 6 assist. Carla Bezjian had 9 saves and 2 steals.

Pool Update

As of right now the pool is clean, but the hot water pump is broken. Some one will be looking at it tomorrow morning. Once the heating issue has been assed we will know about the games for this week. There will be morning weights tomorrow and if the game is canceled there will be dryland practice for both levels

San Marino gets season off on the right start.

The 10th ranked Lady Titan Water Polo squad got their first win of the season last night at Arcadia HS. After a sluggish start, going down by as much as 3 goals to Arcadia, San Marino settled down and started to show some of their form from last season. The Titans rallied back in the 2nd qtr. to tie the game at the half 3-3. The 3rd qtr was back and forth between the 2 teams, but the 4th was all Titans. The Lady Titans closed the game on a 3-0 run in the last 6 min including 2 big saves by goalie Carla Bezjian. The Titans were led in scoring Jessica Chang (3 Goals) and Diana Chang and Kate Scanelle had 2 apiece. Diana Chang had 7 steals, while Bezjian had 8 saves in goal. Up next, San Marino's home opener against Burbank on Thursday.

The JV squad had brillant game winning easily against the Lady Apaches 22-5. Alex Friedlich led all scores with 9.

After a slow start, The Lady Titan Swimming team has been on roll. After dropping their first 2 meets against Mark Kepple and CV, they have beating all comers including rivial South Pasadena and last years Division 2 Champion Walnut. Lead by Captains Myrtle Lin, Diana Chang, and Saskia Reather, the Lady Titans find themselves right where they want to be at the end of the year, contending for a league title. In what is arguably the toughest league in the Pasadena area, San Marino will face off against La Canada for the right to be called Rio Hondo League Champion. San Marino has not forgotten losing the league title last year in their own pool last year and looks to share that feeling with La Canada this year.
The Lady Titans will travel to La Canada HS this Thursday for their biggest meet of the year. The meet will start at 330p, come out and support your Lady Titan Swimming team.

Womens Water Polo wraps up its season.

The San Marino Women's Water Polo Team put a bow on its season last night with its awards banquet. It was a great night to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year. The Varsity squad finished 2nd in the Rio Hondo League (highest ever) and made it back to the CIF playoffs after a 2 year absence. The JV squad finished 3rd in league, their best finish ever.

Receiving awards this year for JV: MVP-Alex Friedlich, Coach's award-Kelly Chang/Marie Luff, Most Improved-Paulina Tulaphorn, Most Inspirational-Kelsey Wentz, Defensive Player of the Year-Brandie Lam/Liana Wong.

Awards for Varsity: MVP- Cindy Hsieh, Coach's Awards-Kristin Charlton, Most Improved-Saskia Reather, Most Inspirational -Diana Chang, Defensive Player of the Year- Heidi Tran. San Marino had 8 girls make the All Rio-Hondo League Team. First Team: Kristin Charlton, Cindy Hsieh, Saskia Reather. 2nd Team: Heidi Tran, Carla Bezjian, Diana Chang. Honorable Mention: Umi Nakamura and Jessica Chang.

Lady Titans have short run in Playoffs

The Lady Titans were slow to start and let Cal-Hi get out to an early lead from which they would never recover. The SM girls put up a good fight but it was not enough and would go on to lose there first playoff match in 3 seasons. read more about it at Patch.com

The SM Women's Water Polo program came a long way this season in every way possible. The girls worked really hard and earned the respect of a lot of people along the way. Thank you to all of you that supported us, came out to watch, and believed in us when no one else did. Ladies, congratulations on a great year.

Selection Sunday has the Lady Titans back in the playoffs (updated 2/14 2:46p)

The Lady Titans will host a CIF Playoff game this Tuesday. San Marino will welcome California High School, an at-large team from the Del Rio League, to campus for this wild card match up. These two teams have met up already this year with California winning 6-3. The Lady Titans hope to have a reversal of fortune this time around and advance to the next round. Should San Marino win on Tuesday, they will have to play #5 Ayala on the road. Game time on Tuesday will be 330p (as of 2/14 2:46p). Wednesday time is TBD. Lady Titans defense gets them back to playoffs.

San Marino, once again put their best defensive foot forward in beating La Canada today 8-4. Starting the 4th qtr up 5-3, San Marino turned back the Lady Spartans at every turn. Lady Titans do it with defense on Senior Day

The Lady Titans avenged a loss to Monrovia today and regained sole possession of 2nd place in the Rio Hondo League. Our pool is down again. I have been told by the Maintenance Dept. that it will not be back up until Thursday. We will try to move both Varsity and JV Practices to South Pasadena. I will confirm the practices tomorrow afternoon. We will keep you informed.

We will leave for our first league match at South Pas at 200p on Thursday. Varsity will leave at 200p on Friday for the Western Tournament. We will play 2 games on Friday and 3 games on Saturday. Friday the 1st game is at 500p At Kennedy HS, 2nd game we will post up via Twitter . Times are TBD for Saturday. It will be posted as soon as I find out. Tournament Schedule.

The Lady Titan Water Polo Team saw there first action of the year today against the Lady Apaches of Arcadia. Got of to a slow start but managed to finish the 1st frame tied at 3.
The 2nd qtr San Marino would fall behind with multiple defensive lapses giving up 5 goals in the period. The Lady Titans would rally in the second half to tie the game, but the rally fell short. San Marino went on to drop their first game 10-9. San Marino was lead in scoring by Cindy Hsieh with for goals. Goalie Carla Bezjian had 10 saves.

The JV girls set the goal on fire winning there first handily 12-5. Led by Liana Wong's 5 goals, the jr. Titans played smothering defense and displayed speed that has been lacking from the squad in recent years.

Water Polo Tryouts

As of Friday, the pool is up and running. Girls Water Polo will hold tryouts Monday-Saturday, 11/15-11/20. Monday 200p-400p, Tuesday-Friday, 600a-720a (Varsity Girls only, will be informed who they are on Monday. ) and 200p-400p for all girls. Saturday will be 800a-1000a and 100p to 300p.

John Wooden was more than a basketball coach. He was a teacher and mentor first and foremost whose classroom was a gym. What he did, or his players if you were to ask him, did on the court may never be equaled. What he left his players, UCLA, friends, family and people he never met will last forever. Team Point Totals: 61.00 14th place

The Varsity Girls swim team finished its season on a high note coming in 14th at the Division 2 CIF swimming Championships. Led by SR. Berklie Oscarson and FR. Tiffany Warmuth , the Lady Titans countinued their 4 year streak of placing in the top 15 at this meet.

At the CIF Masters Meet Warmuth and Oscarson contnued their success swimming against the best swimmers in the CIF Southern Section. In the 200 IM, Oscarson swam a 2:10.74 (15th) and Warmuth swam a 2:11.62 (19th). Tiffany also swam the 500 free in a time of 5:12.15 (15th) and Berklie finished the season off competing in the 100 back finishing with a time of 58.83 (6th). Berklie Oscarson's swims also qualify her to be an All-American swimmer in the 200 IM as well as the 100 Back.

Lady Titans have a successful 1st day at RHLC

The Lady Titans had a great start to the Rio Hondo League
Championships. San Marino placed a swimmer in the finals of every
event. The girls presence was felt the greatest in the 200 IM. San
Marino placed 4 swimmers in the finals. In the 100 back, 3 girls made
it to finals. Tif Yeh, Berklie Oscarson, Tifany Warmuth, Myrtle Lin,
Kristin Charlton, and Kalyn Chang all made finals in there events. The
lady titans are now in a good postion to win the meet tittle. Finals
are Friday starting at 200p.

Water Polo Misses Playoffs

Although they fought hard, The Lady Titans missed out on the CIF playoffs this year. The team improved tremendously and shocked some that said they would not win a game this season. The girls, as in experienced as they were, were in alot of games but could not hold on. They lost a lot of games by 2 or 3 goals.

The Lady Titans will return a solid core and look to get back to the playoffs after a 2 year absence.

The lady titans took another step to returning to the playoffs today
beating temple city 10-8. The lady titans featured a team effort to
take the wire to wire win. Kristin Charlton and Laura Wilson lead the
way with defense. Keeping the rams best player in check most of the
game. San Marino got a lot of help scoring the ball. Lead by Christa
Lam's 4 goals , San Marino never let TC get with in two goals. Wilson,
Charlton, and Cindy Hsieh had 2 goals each. Freshman Umi Nakamura had
one goal. Goalie Carla Bezjian had 8 saves inculding a 5mtr peanalty
shot from TC's top scorer.

The Lady Titans travel to Monrovia tommorow for a must win game to
keep their post season hopes alive. Game time is 330p.

San Marino Gets First Win of The Season at El Rancho Tournament

San Marino Womens water polo team improved their record to 2-3 this past weekend at the El Rancho Tournament. The Lady Titans went 2-2, losing games to Pasadena and Mark Kepple while getting victories against La Salle and Temple City. San Marino went on to finish 11^th in the tournament.

Game Recaps

Game 1 v. Pasadena

San Marino struggled to get its offense going against a tough Pasadena defense. San Marino had trouble generating shots in the first half and would enter the half down 7-2. In the second half San Marino would get its offense going but would be shut out by the great play of the Pasadena goalkeeper.

Game 2 v. La Salle

The Lady Titans would rebound from game 1 to dominate La Salle from start to finish. A balanced scoring attack lead by Saskia Raether and Cindy Hsieh ( 2 goals each), combined with stellar play of goalkeeper Carla Bezjian proved to much for the Lady Lancers. Bezjian had 10 saves in the game, 8 in the second half. Laura Wilson lead the defense with 7 steals and keeping La Salle's best player in check thought the match.

Game 3 v. Mark Kepple

San Marino stumbled early in game three and found themselves down 3-0 at the end of the 1^st period. The Lady Titans would rally back behind Cindy Hsieh's 6 second half steals, but the 5 point deficit at half would be too much for San Marino to overcome.

Game 4 v. Temple City

San Marino faced off against league opponent Temple City in their last match. The Lady Titans, led by Kristen Charlton's 3 first half goals, jumped out to a 6-2 half time lead. San Marino watched that lead evaporate as Temple City stormed back in the 3^rd period. The Lady Rams outscored San Marino 5-1 to tie the game 7-7 entering the 4^th period. San Marino, lead by goalkeeper Carla Bezjian's 5 4^th period saves, would regain there defense edge in the 4^th and limit TC's offensive attack. The game would not be decided until the final 14 seconds. Out of a time out, Cindy Hsieh would score the go ahead goal, her second of the period, with 4 seconds left. Bezjian blocked TC's last second shot to preserve the one point win.

Lady Titans late rally falls short in season opener

San Marino's womens water polo team opened its season against Arcadia HS. The young lady Titans (starting 3 underclassmen), jumped out to an early lead on two goals scored by senior Christa Lam. Arcadia would answer back with 2 goals of their own to tie the game at the end of the 1^st period 2-2. The 2^nd period would go much like the first. San Marino would get the first two goals. One on a counter attack by Junior Cindy Hsieh and the other on a power play goal from Senior Laura Wilson. Arcadia would storm back to tie the game at 4 all going into half.

Arcadia used a 4-0 run to break open the game at the start of the 3^rd, before the Lady Titans could get on the board with 2 goals of their own. San Marino would enter the 4^th period down by 2, but would tie it up on a goal by Wilson with 3 minutes left in the game. 2 late goals by Arcadia would put the game away as San Marino falls in their opener 12-11.

San Marino was lead by Christa Lam who had 3 goals and 3 assist. Kristin Charlton also had 3 goals. Laura Wilson and Cindy Hsieh had 2 goals each and Captain Tiffany Yeh scored 1 goal. Goalie Carla Bezjian had 5 saves in her varsity debut, including turning back a penalty shot.

In the JV game, the Lady Titans swam away with their first victory of the year. Lead by the pressure defense of Freshmen Kaylyn Chang, Jessica Chang, and Umi Nakamura, San Marino would get out to an early lead and stay there. Arcadia did not have an answer for the smothering team defense and shooting of the two Changs and Nakamura. San Marino went on to win the game 13-3.
